CDR Kevin P. Meyers
is the new Commanding Officer, USS GREEN BAY (LPD-20)
CDR Meyers was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. He received his commission through the Enlisted Commissioning Program and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1994. Prior to his commission, he served six years as an Interior Communications Electrician with sea tours aboard the USS PHILADELPHIA (SSN 690)
and the commissioning crew of USS MARYLAND (SSBN 738).
His Division Officer tours included First Lieutenant in USS STETHEM (DDG 65) and Auxiliaries Officer in USS PELELIU (LHA 5). CDR Meyers completed his Department Head tours as Weapons Control Officer and Combat Systems Officer aboard USS HIGGINS (DDG 76) and USS BENFOLD (DDG 65), where he participated in the first DDG Sea Swap. During Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, HIGGINS launched 31 Tomahawk missiles and participated in the clearance of the Kahr Abd Allah waterway. In February 2006, CDR Meyers reported
to USS HARPERS FERRY (LSD 49) as Executive Officer.
CDR Meyers' tours ashore include Model Manager for the Maritime Prepositioning Staff Planning course at Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Pacific and attendance at the Naval War College where he completed his Joint Professional Military Education Phase I and received a Masters Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. In his most recent shore tour
he served on the Joint Staff J-5, Iraq Division.
CDR Meyers' awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal and various unit and service awards.
Lieutenant Commander Ralph Charles Jones Jr.
is the new Executive Officer, USS GREEN BAY (LPD-20)
Lieutenant Commander Ralph C. Jones received his commission
via the U.S. Naval Academy in May 1995.
Following commissioning, he attended Surface Warfare Officer School Division Officer Course in Newport, RI. His first sea tour was onboard USS NASHVILLE (LPD 13) from January 1996 to November 1997, where he served as the Electrical Officer and Main Propulsion Officer. While onboard he completed a Mediterranean Deployment participating in Operation Silver Wake. His next assignment was onboard USS CLARK (FFG 11) from December 1997 to May 2000 as the ship’s Combat Information Center Officer and later as Navigator and Administrative Officer. During his tour he completed a counter-narcotics deployment to the Caribbean Sea and a Great Lakes Deployment. Following his Great Lakes Cruise, LCDR Jones transferred to the
Full Time Support (FTS) community.
His first assignment ashore was at Naval Reserve Readiness Command, Southeast in Millington, TN as the Training Officer from April 2000 to June 2001. In July 2001 he was selected to serve as the Flag Aide to Admiral Debbout at the headquarters for Commander, Naval Surface Reserve Force in New Orleans, LA until September 2002.
Upon graduation from Department Head School in Newport, he reported as Operations Officer in USS CARR (FFG 52) from April 2003 until October 2004. After departing USS CARR, he returned to Newport for the Perspective Executive Officer class. Subsequently he was assigned as Executive Officer for MCM CREW CONSTANT onboard USS GLADIATOR (MCM 11) in Ingleside, TX. While with CREW CONSTANT, he was forward deployed to Bahrain in USS DEXTROUS (MCM 13). In addition to his time on USS DEXTROUS, he served as Executive Officer for USS CARDINAL (MHC 53) for one month.
In October 2006 he reported to the Naval War College in Newport, RI where he received his Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies, graduating in November 2007. During his time at the War College, he was selected for the CO/XO-Fleet Up program. Following his graduation, he reported to Commander, Naval Surface Forces in Coronado, CA. LCDR Jones served one year on an Individual Augmentee tour to Iraq as a Brigade Electronic Warfare Officer prior to being slated to USS GREEN BAY (LPD 20) as the Executive Officer.
LCDR Jones is originally from North Carolina. His hobbies include reading, running and playing golf. His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various unit and campaign awards.
